University of Maryland Eastern Shore at the Baltimore Museum of Industry
About
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) has offered Career and Technical Education related licensure and endorsement programs at the Baltimore Museum of Industry (called BMI, for short) since 2000.
The following are offered in a hybrid and/or online format from UMES at BMI:
- B.S. degree in Technology and Engineering Education
- Master's degree in Career and Technical Education
- Graduate and undergraduate certificate programs in CTE (meets the requirements for Professional and Technical Education licensure in Maryland)
Graduate and undergraduate certificate programs in Work-Based Learning and Career Counseling (satisfies the requirements to add the WBL Coordinator endorsement to a teaching license).
UMES offers the only Maryland Higher Education Commission-approved programs in the state for these specific licensure and endorsement areas. These programs are designed to meet the needs of full-time teachers and have been nationally recognized through numerous awards and publications.
After completing my bachelor’s in engineering, I wanted to transition into education, but I needed the right education. The Master of Education in Career and Technology Education program at UMES was the perfect bridge. The program allowed me to continue working full-time, while the professors provided opportunities for research and networking through organizations like ITEEA. This program didn’t just help me transition careers; it gave me the pedagogical skills and professional network to become a successful engineering instructor.
