


A teacher residency is one pathway to earning your Maryland teaching license.
As a teacher resident, you’ll typically spend at least a full year working in a classroom as the teacher of record, with the support of the residency program and a teacher mentor. You’ll get hands-on experience, build skills and take classes outside of school hours.
Once you’re accepted into a residency program, your program will place you in a school. During your residency, you’ll earn a salary and learn from the best teachers in your field. When you complete your program, you’ll generally commit to teaching in your school system for a certain period of time.
